Recently, my TikTok has been taken over by Lapland elves. Every post I see shows cheerful elf girls baking cookies, feeding reindeer, and living their best lives. Not only does it have me wishing for Christmas way too early, but it also has me wondering: what exactly is a Lapland elf, and how do I become one? For those of you asking the same question, let me share what I’ve discovered.

Where is Lapland and Why is It Special?
Lapland is a region, primarily within the Arctic Circle, that stretches across the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

The elves, however, are found in Finnish Lapland—a place overflowing with Christmas spirit. Visiting in winter feels like stepping into a snow globe, with breathtaking snowy landscapes all around. And if crowds aren’t your thing, you’ll be glad to know that reindeer actually outnumber people in Finnish Lapland. The biggest draw for most visitors is Santa Claus Village, home to the original Santa Claus himself.

So What Do the Elves Do?
The elves, or at least the ones taking over TikTok, work for Lapland Safaris. The description for the elves on the Lapland safari website says

Every elf goes through special training, learning practical skills like first aid and how to handle the cold. They even get microphone practice so they can perfect their Christmas carols and spread extra holiday cheer.

Where Do I Sign Up?
Elves spread Christmas magic from November through January, and now’s your chance to join them! Applications for the 2025 season are open from August 1 to September 30. If you’ve ever dreamed of living in a winter wonderland and working alongside Santa’s team, you can apply right here on their website.
Just in Case You Still Aren’t Convinced…
You’ve got to check out Liberty Stockley on TikTok! She shares her magical experience as an elf from last season. And honestly, it doesn’t get more convincing than watching her and her fellow elves in their cozy costumes, baking cookies and feeding reindeer.

And while you’re on TikTok make sure you check out the official Soar With Syd account for more travel content!
