I’m a big fan of fall, and not to brag, but I live in Massachusetts, and it’s the greatest place to be this time of year! If you need a little convincing, or if you’re in the area looking for ways to get into the spooky season spirit, here are some of the best fall activities in Massachusetts.
Apple Picking

Deep down, we all know we’re not going to use every single apple we pick, but who doesn’t love strolling through an orchard in the fall air? Whether you’re pretending to know the difference between a McIntosh and a Honeycrisp, or just snapping some photos for Instagram, Massachusetts has no shortage of beautiful orchards. I’m a fan of Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow. Not only is it a gorgeous spot to pick apples, but they also have farm animals, mazes, and hayrides!

Visiting Salem

The locals might hate me for saying this (because it gets insanely busy in October), but Salem really is the place to be around Halloween. Whether you’re learning about the Witch Trials, hunting down Hocus Pocus filming locations, or doing some shopping, Salem never disappoints. I highly recommend hopping on a trolley tour. it’s the perfect way to learn some history while seeing all the sights. And you can’t miss Blackcraft! It’s mainly a clothing store, but they also serve coffee that people actually join waitlists for, and on weekends they run a haunted attraction with live scare actors.
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Okay, you caught me. This one isn’t in Massachusetts, but it’s worth the short drive! Roger Williams Park Zoo lights up at night for Halloween lovers to stroll through thousands of intricately carved pumpkins. The designs are seriously impressive, and the vibes are immaculate. The trail isn’t the longest, but if you grab a hot drink and stop for pictures it’ll be worth your while.
Pumpkin Picking

If you walk through the Jack-O’-Lantern Spectacular and think, I could do that, then it’s time to put your money where your mouth is! But first, you need your pumpkin. Sure, Walmart is convenient, but nothing beats picking one straight from the patch. There are plenty of great pumpkin patches in Massachusetts. I personally love Elliot Farm in Lakeville. There are no reservations needed and on top of pumpkins, you can also pick flowers, and their farm stand sells my favorite seasonal treat: apple cider donuts.
At the end of the day, nothing beats a Massachusetts fall. Between apples, pumpkins, and all things spooky, the Bay State knows how to do autumn right. And if you check a few of these activities off your list, you’ll see why we Massholes brag about fall so much.
